Laura Parker is running for Mayor because she cares deeply about this community, the people who make it work, and the kind of Astoria we leave to the next generation. Laura believes our city needs leadership that listens, brings people together, stands up for working families, and makes thoughtful decisions with the courage to follow through.
But Laura’s commitment to this community didn’t begin with a campaign.
Two Decades of Public Service
For more than two decades, she has built a career in public service in Clatsop County. Her work has put her alongside young people and families, schools, law enforcement, attorneys, courts, state agencies and community organizations—often dealing with difficult circumstances where listening, accountability, collaboration and good judgment matter.
Her community service reaches beyond her profession. Laura’s record includes service and involvement with the Astoria Public Library Board, American Legion Clatsop Post #12, Clatsop County 4-H, Friends of the Astoria Armory, Coastal Family Healthcare and the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.
She earned her bachelor’s degree, is a Certified Prevention Specialist, and graduated from the Ford Family Leadership Institute.
Laura didn’t become involved in Astoria because she decided to run for Mayor. She decided to run for Mayor after spending decades involved in Astoria.
Laura is also a seventh-generation Astorian, with family roots tied deeply to the Columbia River, commercial fishing and the natural-resource industries that helped build this community. That history matters to Laura not because it gives anyone a greater claim to Astoria, but because it taught her something about stewardship: each generation inherits this remarkable place for a time, and each has a responsibility to leave it stronger for the people who come next.
